Scientific Research Institute of shipboard weaponry "Kurs" was founded in Moscow in the late 1970s to research and solve tasks of design and use of radioelectronic means. OJSC "CSRI "Kurs " is the head scientific and research organization of shipbuilding industry on systemic design of shipboard electronic weaponry, including ensuring of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of ships’ REM, onboard equipment of ship-based aircraft and missile weapons

      The Institute produces:

• Scientific and engineering supervision of ship and vessel design and construction;
• Systemic evaluation of ship design stages in part of radioelectronic weaponry (REW);
• Scientific-methodological and scientific-engineering supervision of design works on tailoring ship weaponry systems in part of electromagnetic interference situation prediction and development of recommendations to ensure the possibility of simultaneous functioning of shipboard REM;
• Scientific-methodological and scientific-engineering ensuring of REW and ship-based aircraft on-board radioelectronic equipment developments in part of their joint operation in an unintended interference environment created by shipboard sources of electromagnetic energy;
• Scientific research on problems of EMC of REW in cooperation with specialized institutions of RF Ministry of Defense, shipbuilding and other branches of industry;
• Development of regulatory and procedural documents on EMC of REM;
• Scientific-engineering supervision of advanced shipboard collective protection equipment developments;
• Participation in tests of REW pieces of equipment at stages of their manufacturing and also in tests of shipboard weaponry systems in realistic interference environment;
• Software complexes to automate control bodies’ activities to monitor R&D works and create long- and short-time plans for development of marine engineering;
• Development of test benches for imitation and seminatural simulation to provide design and tests of shipboard weapons;
• Development of training complexes;
• Solution of other sophisticated questions on systemic design and operation of shipboard REW.

      The result of the Institute’s work is in implemented proposals on optimum composition, operation algorithms and effectiveness evaluation of REW systems directed to integration of ship separate REW packages into combat systems. A number of proposals on ensuring EMC of ship REM are implemented in collective protection equipment (CPE) “Podzagolovok”, and are also approved for integration into next generation CPEs. Imitation and seminatural simulation complexes developed by the Institute were used in the designing and integrated testing of REW of Projects 1143.5, 11540, 11430, 988 and others.

      The Institute cooperates with organizations and industry enterprises, scientific and research institutes, RF Ministry of Defense order placing agencies and also cultivates contacts with foreign customers, takes part in world market promotion of domestic products including own ones and scientific-technical services of shipbuilding.
